The Giving Closet at Welcome Baby Family Resource Center has moved to Fridays! The Giving Closet, which provides free infant, toddler, and maternity clothing, as well as baby equipment, is available to all Durham County residents who are at least 4 months pregnant or have a child under the age of 5. Shoppers may select 10 pieces of clothing per child under 5 years of age, 15 accessories per household (socks, bibs, cloth diapers, shoes, books, bottles, etc.), and 1 large piece of equipment depending upon availability – all at no cost!
In order to shop at the Giving Closet, you must provide valid photo identification (driver’s license, state ID, passport, school ID) each time you visit and verify residency once a year by bringing a utility bill, phone bill, lease, Medicaid card, letter or current mail addressed to you, or other proof of residency. Shoppers may visit the Giving Closet 1 time per month, 6 times per year.

The Giving Closet is a wonderful community resource and is also a good way to learn about Welcome Baby’s many other free programs. Welcome Baby is a program of Durham County Cooperative Extension and is partially funded by the Partnership through Smart Start. Welcome Baby provides parenting education and support to families with young children, and services are available for free to all Durham County residents with newborns and children to age 5.
