The Many Voices of Literacy
Posted on 02.26.2019, Tuesday

With this being Read Across America Week, we thought it best to share about our very own literacy event coming soon. Friday, March 8th, The Partnership is hosting The Many Voices of Literacy. This event focuses on family engagement and the importance of early reading while featuring local authors of color! There will be live music by Shenette Swann, raffles, refreshments, make and take activities, free books, and last but not least author read-alouds.

Here are our Authors:

  • Monisha Parker: “What’s Going on With Mommy?” – This book provides parents with method of explaining when a parent, or guardian, is diagnosed with a serious health condition. It is a great way to help children understand the changes that a parent may experience.
  • Krystle Bradley: “Brave Bradley” – This book explores friendship and how young children develop lasting relationships.
  • Tiffany Tate: “Number Clock Rock” – This book teaches the numbers on a clock in a new and exciting way. By personifying numbers, children can better relate to what they are learning.

Because early literacy is so important, The Partnership will supply every child in Durham County, ages 0-5, with a free book each month through the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL). DPIL mails an age- appropriate book directly to your door in order to foster a love of reading among young children. There will be DPIIL registration information and other literacy resources at the Many Voices of Literacy event.
