This time of year, is extremely busy, especially if you celebrate the season of giving! This is the biggest time of year for the toy industry due to many of the little ones making their wish list! Although parents and other relatives feel joy by purchasing toys and gifts for little tikes, there is much to be considered when it comes to toy safety! When toys and gifts for children, how safe the toys are aren’t always the 1st thing that comes to mind. Toys, although fun, can present hazards if the toy is not age appropriate for the child. Many toys are made with age recommendations to accompany your child’s developmental level. According to the U.S Consumer Products Safety Commission, 251,7000 toy related injuries were treated by hospital emergency rooms around the U.S in 2010. To properly celebrate Safe Toys and Gifts Month here are some things you can do to ensure you are giving safe gifts to children this season. 1) Inspect the toys before you purchase them 2) Make sure the age and skill level match the child you are purchasing the gift for 3) Check the toys label for the ATSM (American Society for Testing Materials) labeling to prove the toy is up to standard 4) Avoid toys with ropes cords and other materials that can be hazardous or toxic. We at The Partnership want the families we serve to be safe and mindful during the holiday season of the toys that may be gifted to their children!
