Dear Colleagues,

Yesterday in Uvalde, Texas a tragedy struck. Eighteen-year-old Salvador Ramos opened fire at Robb Elementary School, resulting in the death of at least 19 children and 2 adults. This incident is yet another heartbreaking moment for Americans. This is a reminder of how integral our role is within the early education system and the importance of trauma informed care. This incidence highlights the vulnerability of educational spaces.  This tragedy reminds us of the complexity in support we must provide for families and children alike. After the prayers and condolences for the families affected by this horrific incident, let us be encouraged to continuously create holistic spaces that embrace children and families who are affected by loss daily.

Sincerely,

Danielle Johnson, MPH, M.Ed.
