We are pleased to announce that Dr. Gary Hill was recently chosen as one of Triangle Business Journals Health Care Heroes of 2014! We are proud to partner with him through our dental health efforts, and it was our pleasure to nominate him for this much-deserved award.

Triangle Business Journal’s Health Care Heroes Awards celebrate the good work of local doctors, nurses, volunteers and other health care professionals.

“These awards were created to recognize the many people who have put innovation and compassion to work to improve the human condition,” said Bryan Hamilton, publisher of TBJ. “The winners exemplify what it means to be heroes. Whether serving those in need or striving for innovation, these heroes do whatever it takes to offer critical services to change people’s lives.”

Dr. Hill has demonstrated throughout his more than 35 years as a pediatric dental practitioner that he consistently maintains a high quality of care for his patients, is greatly respected by his colleagues, actively seeks new advancements, and is committed to serving the community both through his practice and in his spare time.

His impact reaches near and far, as he has coordinated the “Give Kids a Smile” program in Durham and goes on annual mission trips to provide dental care for the underserved population abroad. He also established a top-notch Dental Health Education Program through his practice to share the message of preventative dentistry with children.

It is through this program that we came to know and appreciate Dr. Hill’s work. Funds raised during the 2013 Great Human Race were used to build dental health kits for young children in Durham, and Neelam Sullivan, Dental Health Educator at Dr. Hill’s office, joined us on our visits to the child care centers to talk about the basics of tooth care with more than 100 young children.  Her presentations were targeted toward our youngest learners, and she engaged children by using her puppet ‘Smiley’ to demonstrate proper tooth brushing and flossing techniques. Click here to view a video about last year’s presentations.

We are thrilled for Dr. Hill and congratulate him on this huge honor! We will be partnering with his office once again this year for our dental health kit distribution as part of the Great Human Race. All proceeds raised will go towards dental health kits. We are on our way of reaching our goal of $3,000 so that we can reach triple the number of children as last year.  But we need your help to cross the finish line!  Please visit our team page to find out how you can donate and participate!
