It was nice to give back to our community in a much different way than our every day work, as we worked together to prepare and deliver meals to the 485 seniors served each day by Meals on Wheels of Durham! During our time there, we helped pack nutritious hot meals, loaded cars, and then delivered the meals to clients throughout Durham. It was rewarding and fun to work together, but it was also an emotional and eye-opening experience, giving us insight into some of the issues facing Durham’s seniors. In addition to reinforcing our own sense of community service, it was also a great reminder of how many organizations in Durham work so hard every day to help those in need.
This was the fourth annual 9/11 Day of Service, which was established to honor those lost on 9/11 through community service. This was our second year participating in this great event as a staff. An estimated 2,000 volunteers took on more than 80 projects around the Triangle for this year’s event!
