We are gearing up for an exciting Week of the Young Child (WOYC) this year, and as part of our preparation, we are currently accepting artwork by children birth to age 5 as part of our WOYC Poster Contest! Each year the National Association for the Education of Young Children sponsorsThe Week of the Young Child: Celebrating our Youngest Learners to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.
From now through Thursday, March 10th, children 5 years old and younger in Durham County can decorate a poster and submit it to the Partnership for a chance to win a collection of brand new books for young readers. Winners will also have their artwork featured on our website and social media, as well as in The Herald-Sun and in a display at Northgate Mall. The winners will be selected by the Partnership’s Board of Directors and will be announced during the Week of the Young Child, April 10th-16th.
Art plays an important role in a child’s physical, emotional and cognitive development, as it allows young children to express emotions, experience autonomy, and build confidence. Please encourage all of Durham County’s youngest learners to embrace the pleasure of art and help them submit their entries today!
