NC Pre-K application period extended

The Universal Pre-Kindergarten application period for the 2017-2018 school has been extended! Don’t miss this final opportunity to apply by May 26th.

Your child might qualify to participate in 2017-2018 Durham County NC Pre-K if: 

  • Your child is not currently enrolled in a preschool program
  • Your child turns 4 years by August 31, 2017 (born between September 1, 2012 and August 31, 2013)
  • Your child has health concerns or special needs
  • Your family qualifies for financial assistance
  • English is your child’s second language

In order to apply during this extended final opportunity, please bring your child to the Durham Public Schools Staff Development Center, located at 2107 Hillandale Road, between 8:30 am and 3:00 pm on the following dates: May 19th, May 22nd, or May 26th.

You must also bring the following required documents:

  • Copy of child’s birth certificate
  • Proof of current address in Durham County (lease/mortgage or utility statement)
  • Proof of ALL household income, including 2016 W-2 and 1 month of household income, child support, SSI/A, etc.

Applications will not be processed without necessary documentation. The full application can be downloaded and filled out prior to visiting the DPS Staff Development Center, or it can be filled out there.

Durham County’s NC Pre-K program is a community-based voluntary program that provides high-quality early educational experiences to prepare 4-year-olds for kindergarten. The NC Pre-K program operates in private class rooms, Durham Public Schools and Durham Head Start centers. The universal application process is a collaborative effort led by the Partnership to reach families with 4-year-olds in Durham and assist them in applying for available slots.
