Monday January 17, 2022 is recognized as Martin Luther King Jr. Day! Many of us understand that the essence of what Dr, King was fighting for was for all people to receive equal and equitable opportunities within this country. In honor of Dr. King and his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, we all owe it to our communities to ensure that we are doing our part. Dr. King wrote an article while at Morehouse in 1947 entitled The Purpose of Education. King says “The function of education, therefore, is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically.”. One way that Durham’s Partnership for Children we believe in creating spaces where true education can thrive and prepare our children for the future. Education is one of the many ways we are able to create a more even playing field for all children. There are many community organizations in Durham that play integral roles in children having a well-rounded education. Book Harvest is hosting a Dream Big MLK Day Book Drive January 17, 2022 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at Durham Central Park! This is an opportunity to support Durham’s children and bring books to donate, or receive books if your child needs literature! Let’s empower our children and inspire them to think through literacy!
