Durhams Partnership for Children’s Celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2023. This year’s theme, presented by The King Center, is “It Starts with Me: Cultivating a Beloved Community Mindset to Transform Unjust Systems.” The King Center states that:
Martin Luther King, Jr. described the “Beloved Community” as a society where “caring and compassion drive political policies that support the worldwide elimination of poverty and hunger and all forms of bigotry and violence. At its core, the ‘Beloved Community’ is an engine of reconciliation.”
On January 13, The King Center will host a “Beloved Community Teach-In,” PK-12 lesson plans and educational materials are fully available once you register!
Help students understand the context of King’s life with virtual tours of the MLK memorial in Washington, D.C., and King’s childhood home in Atlanta, GA.
To ensure every child in Durham enters school ready to succeed, we lead community strategies for children birth to age 5 and their families that promote healthy development and learning and enhance access to high-quality care.
