As the federal government shutdown continues, families across the country are at risk of losing food and nutrition benefits starting November 1st. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is the largest nutrition assistance program in the United States, allowing recipients to purchase groceries based on eligibility requirements. In Durham alone, over 32,000 residents receive SNAP benefits. 16% of those residents are children age birth to 5.
