Kickoff event for United Way Collective Impact Collaboratives
Posted on 11.11.2015, Wednesday

Yesterday, the Partnership held a kickoff event for the DELTA and YOU United Way Collaboratives at the main branch of the Durham County Library. Both Collaboratives serve families in the attendance zones of Glenn Elementary School and Neal Middle School. The event offered an opportunity for administrators and staff at both schools to learn about support services available to students and their families during the 2015-16 school year.

More than 30 people attended the kickoff event and heard presentations from partners in both Collaboratives about the services they’re providing as well as information about how to make referrals.

The DELTA (Durham’s Early Learning Two-Generation Alliance) Collaborative provides a web of intensive supportive services for low-income children and families living (or attending child care) in the attendance zone of Glenn Elementary School. This target zone was selected based on data demonstrating significant risk factors in the areas of economic security, family well-being, and school readiness/success. Working together in a coordinated and focused manner, the combined expertise of the DELTA team will meaningfully impact the lives of these vulnerable young children. The DELTA Collaborative partners are: Child Care Services Association, Exchange Clubs Child Abuse Prevention Center, Center for Child & Family Health, Communities in Schools of Durham, and Durham Public Schools (unfunded).

DELTA services include:

The YOU (Youth Opportunities United) Collaborative creates an intentional, layered, multi-generational model of services to wrap around Durham students and their families to support student and family success. Their target population is families living in the attendance zone of Neal Middle School and Glenn Elementary School, with a focus on rising 6th graders. The YOU Collaborative partners are: Communities in Schools of Durham, Exchange Family Center, the Salvation Army of Durham, the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle, and Child Care Services Association.

The Partnership is a part of three United Way of the Greater Triangle Collective Impact Collaboratives, including DELTA. We’re excited to continue working with many of our existing partners, develop relationships with new partners, and advance innovative approaches to serve Durham’s young children and their families.
