Our partners at Communities In Schools of Durham are excited to announce a new Incredible Years® Parent group at Glenn Elementary beginning February 21st! The Incredible Years (IY) evidence-based parenting programs focus on strengthening parenting competencies and fostering parent involvement in children’s school experiences, to promote children’s academic, social and emotional skills and reduce conduct problems.
“Thanks for having this class. It helped me to become a better father to the girls.”
“This class was great! We learned together, we cried together, and we helped each other.”
These are just a few of the things that recent graduates have said about this opportunity!
The group is free and meets once a week for 14 weeks. The upcoming group will meet on Tuesdays from 5:30-8:00 pm at Glenn Elementary (2415 E Geer St, Durham, NC 27704). Attendees will enjoy a light meal from 5:30-6:00 pm, child care is provided, and transportation costs may be available for Glenn Elementary families. A graduation party will be held at a family fun venue at the end of the class, and there will be weekly incentives, raffles, and prizes!
The IY Parent group is funded by a United Way Collaborative of which we are a partner – DELTA, or Durham’s Early Learning Two-Generation Alliance. This Collaborative provides a web of intensive supportive services for low-income children and families living (or attending child care) in the attendance zone of Glenn Elementary School. This target zone was selected based on data demonstrating significant risk factors in the areas of economic security, family well-being, and school readiness/success. Working together in a coordinated and focused manner, the combined expertise of the DELTA team will meaningfully impact the lives of these vulnerable young children. The DELTA Collaborative partners are: Child Care Services Association, Exchange Clubs Child Abuse Prevention Center, Center for Child & Family Health, Communities in Schools of Durham, and Durham Public Schools (unfunded).
