Families Moving Forward, a new organization formed out of the merger of Genesis Home and Durham Interfaith Hospitality Network, is hosting a Housewarming at their newly renovated site! This family-friendly event is taking place on Wednesday, May 25th from 4-6 pm at 300 N Queen St, Durham, NC 27701. Families Moving Forward invites everyone to tour the space, mingle, and learn more about the new agency and plans for the future.
Families Moving Forward is adding eight new guest rooms, two staff offices, a multi-purpose room, and two work rooms to address the needs of the families and children that they serve. They are still in need of help to get the first floor ready for guests, so please consider bringing an item from the wish list by clicking here: target.com.
Families Moving Forward offers a temporary home to families with children in the crisis of homelessness. Working together, they create a path to stability and self-sufficiency through personalized services and ongoing community support.
Families Moving Forward is also a member of Durham’s Collaborative to End Family Homelessness, one of the United Way Collective Impact Collaboratives of which the Partnership is a member. Durham has more than 10,000 households paying 50% or more of their income on housing expenses. These households are at-risk of becoming homeless due to an unexpected health episode, job loss, or reduction in hours with their current employer. This partnership was created to form a data-driven system of services for homeless families to quickly move into permanent housing. Other partners in this Collaborative are Urban Ministries of Durham and Housing for New Hope.
