Join us at the Hoover Road Community “Cook-In” tomorrow, Jan. 21st! This free, family-friendly event begins at 1:00 pm at the Hoover Road Community Center (1126 Hoover Road, Durham, NC 27703).
Families are invited to come enjoy a free meal, prizes, music, family fun, and tons of information about resources and available programs. This event is sponsored by the Mayor’s Transformation in 10 Initiative, part of the Mayor’s Poverty Reduction Initiative. Mayor Bell launched the Poverty Reduction Initiative in early 2014, setting off a “neighborhood by neighborhood, year by year” effort. He picked two “block groups” in Census Tract 10.01, which is a portion of North-East Central Durham, to be the first target area. The Partnership plays a lead role on the Education Task Force of this Initiative.
Beginning in February, the Hoover Road Community will also be visited by the Durham County Bookmobile each Monday from 3-4pm. Residents will be able to check out books for free, and it also has materials for children and adults in both English and Spanish. Books checked out from the bookmobile can be returned to any branch. Likewise, books checked out at another branch can be returned to the bookmobile.
