Child & Family Day at the General Assembly on June 10th

There’s still time to register to join us tomorrow, June 10th, for Child & Family Day at the General Assembly! Help us send a loud and clear message to our elected representatives that our children and youth should be their number one priority. On Child & Family Day, we want to remind our lawmakers that when children thrive, all of NC benefits from a well-educated workforce, safer communities, and a more prosperous economic future.

Halifax Mall, 16 W. Jones Street

9:30 AM—Registration begins with music and activities on the lawn

10:00 AM—Child and Family Day Speakers

  • Sheila Arias, Mother of a child with disabilities and Head Start teacher
  • Youth from Jack and Jill of America and YES! (Youth Empowered Solutions)
  • Deputy Dallas Pastirik, Harnett County Sheriff’s Department
  • Tom Vitaglione, Senior Fellow, NC Child

10:30 AM—Small Group Session Breakouts

  • How to complete a successful legislative visit
  • The First 2000 Days
  • Data Driven Solutions
  • School Discipline

11:15 AM—Visits to Legislators and Games and Activities

  • Visits to legislators (for those who volunteered at registration)
  • Games and Activities
    • Art projects run by Arts Together and Art Space
    • Field activities with Camp Gladiator
    • Decorating onesies with MomsRising
    • Much, much more!

Here is a link to a map of state-run parking lots near the General Assembly. Halifax Mall is located in between the Legislative Building and the Legislative Office Building. The address for the legislative building is 16 W. Jones Street. There is also street parking, but that is generally metered and/or time-limited.
