Celebrate Día de los Niños this Saturday
Posted on 04.27.2016, Wednesday

This Saturday, April 30th, is the annual Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros (Day of the Children/Day of the Books) Celebration at Durham County Library! A variety of free, family-friendly events are planned from 10 am – 1 pm at the Main Library, East Regional, North Regional, South Regional and Stanford L. Warren Branch. Activities will include crafts, storytimes, musical performances, visits with community organizations and more.

Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros is a celebration based on childhood and literacy that began in 1997. Borrowing from the traditional Mexican holiday “El día de los niños,” the U.S. version expanded to include literacy when author Pat Mora took up the cause. Congress officially designated April 30th as “Day of the Child” in 1998.
