The time of year has come again where Barnes and Noble at Southpoint host a book drive to support Durham’s Partnership for Children! For 14 years this effort has benefitted the Partnership by helping us provide early literacy resources for the families and children we serve. Year 15 currently presents a different challenge due to COVID- 19 and how it has shaped our shopping experiences, however, we encourage you to shop at Barnes and Noble Southpoint this Holiday Season and donate books to this cause! The Book Drive will begin November 1st and run through December 10th 2020. To ensure your safety and the safety of others Barnes and Noble Southpoint is offering online purchasing, pick-up and curbside services to all customers. We hope that you will partner with us and Barnes and Noble to make an impact on early literacy for the children in Durham!

Question of the Week
Question: How can I get assistance on paying my rent and utility bills?
Answer: The Housing Opportunity and Prevention of Evictions (HOPE) Program is a statewide initiative to help residents of North Carolina pay their rent and utilities for up to 6 months. HOPE will provide assistance to families who (1) have been affected by the economic impact of COVID-19, (2) have a household income that is 80% of the area median income, and (3) are behind on their rent and utilities. Families can receive help by calling 211 or by filling out an application online at https://nc211.org/hope/. If your application is accepted, you will be directed to a community partner agency in Durham County and contacted to receive your appropriate documents. Families are required to provide current household income information, a government issued ID, proof of occupancy of the rental, copy of a valid and current lease, and a copy of utility bill or statement. Visit the website above for more information and to apply now!
To ensure every child in Durham enters school ready to succeed, we lead community strategies for children birth to age 5 and their families that promote healthy development and learning and enhance access to high-quality care.
