Accepting entries for Week of the Young Child Poster Contest
Posted on 03.06.2014, Thursday

The Partnership is currently accepting artwork by children birth to age 5 as part of the upcoming Week of the Young Child (WOYC) celebration, April 6th-12th. Each year the National Association for the Education of Young Children sponsors The Week of the Young Child: Early Years are Learning Years to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

From now through Friday, March 21st, children 5 years old and younger in Durham County can decorate a poster and submit it to the Partnership for a chance to win a library of 15 books for young readers. Top entries will be featured on this blog and on our Facebook page, and also at participating venues throughout the WOYC. Online voting will take place on Facebook between March 24th – 28th, and the winners will be announced during the Week of the Young Child.

Drawing plays an important role in a child’s physical, emotional and cognitive development, as it allows young children to express emotions, experience autonomy, and build confidence. Please encourage all of Durham County’s youngest children to embrace the pleasure of art and help them submit their entries today! Last year the Partnership received more than 300 entries!
