Durham’s rising kindergartners need your help!

We’ve just wrapped up our 3rd Annual Kindergarten Registration Week, which was another huge success thanks to the support of so many organizations, businesses, agencies and volunteers. As another part of our Transition to Kindergarten Initiative, a collaboration with Durham Public Schools, we are gearing up for Blast Off to Kindergarten events at our Transition Team schools.

Eddy - K Here I ComeTransition Teams have been created in 8 elementary schools: C.C. Spaulding, Eastway Elementary, Eno Valley Elementary, E.K. Powe Elementary, Forest View Elementary, Glenn Elementary, Lakewood Elementary and Y.E. Smith Elementary. The Transition Teams are comprised of teachers, community members and school administrators, all with the common goal of wanting to make kindergarten an exciting and welcoming place for new students and families in their community. Each Transition Team hosts events for rising kindergartners and their families leading up to the first day of school in August.

Children who will be entering kindergarten in August will attend the event with their families, where they will learn about how to register for kindergarten, meet the school staff, tour the school and meet future classmates. We are in need of volunteers to help set up/clean up for the event, sign in families, serve dinner and supervise children.

We know you’ll have a great time meeting the children and families and helping them make a smooth transition during this important time!
