Today is #GivingTuesday, a global movement dedicated to giving back during the holiday season, and we hope you’ll take a moment today to give your support to young children and families in Durham!
A child’s early years are a crucial window to create the best possible outcomes in education, health and economic prosperity. It is when we have the best opportunity to build a successful future for both individuals and for our community. Early childhood is truly one of the best investments you can make. Research shows that early education produces up to a 13% return on investment. That return comes in the form of reduced remediation costs in schools, lower crime rates and less reliance on public programs — all of which provide economic benefit and social stability to communities. However, the benefits do not stop there. Financial investment in our youngest citizens also leads directly to higher graduation rates, increased college attendance, higher earnings and better jobs.
When you make a gift to the Partnership, you are making a lifelong difference.
Another way to celebrate #GivingTuesday with us is through our 12th Annual Barnes & Noble Holiday Book Drive. Purchase books for young children at the Barnes & Noble-Southpoint location before December 31st, and we will collect and distribute them to organizations serving young children throughout Durham County. During last year’s book drive, more than 3,000 books were distributed to young children who would not typically have books in their homes, and we hope to share the gift of literacy with even more children this year!
Durham, along with many communities, is undoubtedly facing some tough challenges, but our opportunity lies in early childhood. Our work at the Partnership is important, effective, and urgent, and we can’t do it without you. Help us make the early years the beginning of a lifetime of possibility and potential for all children in Durham, and in the spirit of #GivingTuesday, make your gift today!
