Committees

Allocations Committee

The Allocations Committee will work to review the funding process, evaluate program proposals, provide funding recommendations to the Board of Directors, and oversee the planning and development of the next year’s allocations process. The goal for the Allocations Committee is to create a mission-driven, proactive allocations process that utilizes the outcomes and indicators set by the Partnership’s Board of Directors and complies with the timetable required by NCPC. Members are recruited from the community, bring a variety of skills and educational backgrounds and have no conflict of interest with any funded partners.

Community Awareness Committee

The Community Awareness & Development Committee works to increase the Durham community’s awareness of early childhood issues, their economic importance to the future of this community, and the value of the public and private sectors working together to address these issues. The Committee works to increase the resources available to support the efforts of Durham’s Partnership for Children, identify, support and participate in the development of resource development strategies. All efforts will help DPfC address and fund early childhood programs and activities.

Evaluation Committee

In an effort to gain broader participation in and understanding of Partnership evaluation functions, an Evaluation Committee will be formed to give input and feedback to evaluation tasks.  The goal for the Evaluation Committee is to develop a process so that a common understanding of Board-identified outcomes and indicators exist, and to ensure that meaningful data is collected to inform the Partnership’s work towards outcomes for young children in Durham.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee shall consist of the Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and such other members of the Board of Directors as are appointed by the Chair and approved by the Board of Directors. The Executive Committee shall have and may exercise all the authority of the Board in matters pertaining to the basic management of the Corporation between meetings of the board except as limited by N.C.G.S. Section 55A-23. All actions taken by the Executive Committee shall be reported to the Board.

Finance/Audit Committee

The Finance Committee is responsible for monitoring the finance, accounting, and contracting function of Durham’s Partnership for Children, reporting to the Board of Directors on the financial status of the Partnership, and making recommendations to the Board on any policies or policy changes relating to the finance, accounting, and contracting function. The goal of the Finance Committee is to oversee a proactive financial process that utilizes best practices of financial management and complies with any regulations required by Smart Start, NC Pre-K, Early Head Start, and all applicable Federal and state authorities.

Fund Development Committee

The Fund Development Committee leads the Board of Directors’ participation in resource development and fund-raising. The committee works with the staff to develop the organization’s fund-raising plan. The committee develops policies, plans, procedures, and schedules for board involvement in fund-raising. It helps educate directors about the organization’s program plans and the resources needed to realize those plans. It familiarizes directors with fund-raising skills and techniques so that they are comfortable raising funds. The committee is the board’s central source of information about the fund-raising climate in general, and about the status of the organization’s fund-raising activities in particular. The committee sets minimum guidelines for directors’ contributions and then solicits those contributions. It also plays a strong role in identifying, cultivating, and approaching major donors.

Investment Committee

The Durham’s Partnership for Children Board of Directors developed the Investment Committee to be responsible for the oversight, review and monitoring of the Partnership’s Retirement Plan. The 401(k) plan allows for the Partnership to contribute a percentage of the employee’s salary each pay period, as well as for the employee to contribute a voluntary amount. This committee meets twice a year and reviews the Plan documents presented by the Investment Manager.

NC Pre-K/School Readiness Committee

The NC Pre-K/School Readiness Committee gives input on the NC Pre-K program in Durham County and additional activities and programs that will further school readiness for children. The committee works to increase the Durham community’s awareness of Pre-K including the public schools working together to address these issues.
