Docs For Tots North CarolinaThe Docs For Tots North Carolina works to connect health professionals, primarily Duke University Pediatric Residents, with meaningful ways to support early childhood initiatives that influence the overall health of our young children.
Pediatricians can heal bumps, bruises and prescribe medication, but within the clinical practice walls, they cannot address the overall health issues of children living in poor conditions due to poverty. Issues, such as inadequate housing, malnutrition, limited access to quality early learning environments, and racial disparities all affect children's overall health and school readiness.
The Docs For Tots NC Initiative is part of a nationwide network of doctors that pursues its vision through:
- Continuing to add to our growing nationwide network of doctors
- Identifying advocacy opportunities and brokering relationships with child advocacy organizations
- Supporting our network of doctors by providing training and technical support for the network using science and fact-based resources (i.e., talking points, presentations, and individual technical assistance)
- Developing and implementing special projects and initiatives that fit within our mission and vision
